B2B SaaS SEO: A Playbook for Pipeline, Not Just Traffic

B2B SaaS SEO: A Playbook for Pipeline, Not Just Traffic

Plenty of B2B SaaS companies grow organic traffic every quarter and still can't point to a single closed deal from search. The problem is rarely effort. It's targeting. This playbook shows how to build an SEO program your CMO and CRO can both defend.

    Start With Revenue, Not Keywords

Before opening a keyword tool, pull your last 50 closed-won deals. What problems did those buyers describe on discovery calls? Which competitors did they compare you against? Which integrations did they ask about? Those answers are your first keyword list, and they will convert far better than broad, high-volume terms.

    Build Around Four Content Types

High-intent SaaS search falls into four groups. Prioritize them in this order:

    • Comparison pages: "[Your product] vs [Competitor]" and "[Competitor] alternatives"
    • Use-case pages: one page per job your product does, written for the person who owns that job
    • Integration pages: one page per major integration, explaining the workflow it unlocks
    • Problem-led guides: in-depth articles on the pain your product removes

Comparison and integration pages often produce more demos than dozens of top-of-funnel blog posts combined.

    Fix the Technical Basics First

SaaS sites often split across a marketing site, docs, app subdomain and help center. Make sure every public page is in your sitemap, canonical tags point to the right version, and JavaScript-heavy pages render real content for crawlers. Check Google Search Console for pages that are crawled but not indexed. That report tells you where Google sees thin or duplicate content.

    Write for the Buying Committee

A B2B purchase usually involves a user, a manager, a budget holder and someone from IT or security. Your strongest pages answer each of their questions: how it works day to day, what ROI to expect, what it costs, and how data is handled. Pages that cover only features lose to pages that handle objections.

Show Up in AI Answers Too

Buyers now ask ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews for shortlists. To be cited, publish clear definitions, honest comparisons, specific numbers and structured FAQs. Get mentioned on review sites, partner pages and industry roundups, because AI tools lean heavily on third-party sources.

    Measure What Leadership Cares About

Track organic sign-ups, demo requests and influenced pipeline, not only sessions and rankings. Tag forms by landing page so you can see which articles start real conversations. Report monthly on pipeline sourced or influenced by search, and cut content that brings visits but never moves a deal.

    A Realistic Timeline

Months one to two: technical fixes, tracking and the first comparison pages. Months three to six: use-case and integration pages, plus link building through partners. Month six onward: compounding results, refreshes of top pages and expansion into AI search visibility.
